Julz, Bryn, and Blake form a dedicated team in Rotorua, bringing their passion for lawn care to the local community. With a start in October 2024, Blake has joined Crewcut turning his part-time experience in lawn mowing into a full-fledged business career. Motivated by the desire for an active lifestyle, Blake enjoys the hands-on work of lawn mowing and weed eating, while his parents, Julz and Bryn, support him behind the scenes. Bryn helps with administration and equipment upkeep, and Julz assists with day-to-day administrative tasks, making them a well-rounded team. 

In Rotorua, Blake uses his Walker Mowers to maintain efficiency on each job, focusing on providing top-notch lawn mowing services. Known for his efficiency and keen attention to detail, he strives to enhance the beauty of local properties. Blake’s main goal is to expand his portfolio of commercial clients across the Rotorua region, building long-term relationships. 

Outside of work, Blake enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling, and sharing moments with family. Since joining Crewcut, he has learned to navigate the variety of customer needs that come with the business, a skill he considers essential in building trust and long-term relationships. Craig is your new Crewcut operator in Tokoroa offering lawn mowing, gardening, weed eating, and section maintenance services. He’s ready to deliver quality work to any residential or commercial property with his Husqvarna ride-on, Lawnmaster mowers, Husqvarna weed eaters, hedge trimmers, and blowers.

Prior to joining the crew, Craig worked as a dairy farmer and tractor driver for the last 35 plus years. While he enjoyed working outside, he no longer wanted to start his days at 4 am and finish late. He thought it was time to change to something that will offer him greater flexibility. He made the switch to Crewcut because mowing lawns will keep him outdoors but at the same time give him the option to work the days and hours he wants.

At the moment, he has a part-time gardener assisting him, but his long-term goal is to grow the business to a level where his wife can work with him. With his attention to detail, polite nature, great time management skills, and physical fitness, he’ll surely achieve this goal in no time.

When Craig isn’t on the tools, you’ll see him spending time with his family and playing with their dogs. He also takes the time to visit his father who lives in a rest home.

“If you like the outdoors, the smell of freshly mowed grass, and can work around any weather, it is a good lifestyle choice,” he says when asked about his advice to newcomers in the business.

Phil and Carolyn Cross are the Master Franchisees for Rotorua. They introduced the Crewcut brand to Rotorua in 1996, and they now have a team of franchisees specialising in lawns and gardens.

We love Rotorua and have lived here for many years. We both have a background in Banking, and Phil has a Diploma in Business studies, and I enjoyed my time that I spent as a caregiver for Barnardo’s children. We are very family orientated, having 3 grown up children of our own and now Grandchildren to spoil. Sports is something we both enjoy particularly running, and can often be heard on the side line of a biking event.

We are both fully committed to the business in the office and out on the field so between us have a lot of business experience and hands on knowledge for supporting our team of Business owners.

Todd joined Crewcut in the middle of 2019 as part of the Rotorua crew. He offers lawn mowing, spraying, gardening, hedge trimming, and water blasting work. On top of that, he is also able to deliver tree services being an experienced arborist himself. He covers places all over Rotorua from Mangakakahi to Okere Falls for majority of his services and prefers to use Stihl hedge trimmers, line trimmers, blowers, and other tools under this brand when doing his work.

Todd had a background in forestry so it only made sense to join a company in a similar industry. “I was going to move down the coast, but my son wasn’t ready to come with me so I bought the business. I want to be able to carry it on so I can look after my son,” he said. “I just saw the business for sale. I’m glad I really did because the amount of work that I want was more than readily available at all times it seems.”

His goal for is Crewcut franchise is to run the business for himself and then have something to hand down to his son. When asked about what’s been keeping him busy other than the business, he said he’s just been working and enjoying getting out each day. He also shares that most of his time is spent taking care of his son who had an accident. The rest of the remaining time, he spends motorbike riding.

After over half a year with the company, he said he’s learned a lot because he’s never gotten the chance to run his own business before. He says he learned a lot about self-discipline and how he’s supposed to just keep going especially on days when it’s too hot or when it rains all day.

“Be prepared. Be fit. Be prepared to do whatever you have to do to keep the customer happy,” Todd says.

Dwayne has been with Crewcut in Rotorua since 2019 and is ready and waiting to take on your lawn care tasks around Hillcrest, Victoria, and Springfield.

With a background in landscaping, he’s your one-stop shop for all lawn mowing and garden maintenance requirements. He takes pride in his craft and uses only the best Husqvarna gear to ensure a job well done. 

When you see Dwayne behind a mower, you’d be forgiven for thinking he’s been with Crewcut for years, but he’s a jack of all trades. Dwayne returned to New Zealand from Sydney in 2012 and entered the supermarket industry to work toward store ownership. However, his heart wasn’t in it, and he wanted to do something he loved. That love was lawn care, and Crewcut was the golden ticket.

Dwayne moved from Auckland to Rotorua and found that Crewcut offered the best support and was an established brand. He now runs the business by himself but has plans for his wife to join him in the near future.

While it was challenging to decide what he wanted to do and whether lawn care was for him, he’s pleased he made the right call. He enjoys the work-life balance of being able to play sports and spend time with his family. He also believes his experience in the supermarket industry has been positive for his customer service skills.
